What Mailchimp is
Mailchimp is an email and SMS marketing platform with automations, analytics and AI tools. Example users include restaurants, non-profits, ecommerce, small businesses and professional services.
A newsletter operator can use it for email campaigns, templates, popup forms, audience tools and reporting. SMS is an add-on in select countries and needs approval.
It connects with 300+ apps.
Who it is for
Mailchimp has pages for restaurants, entertainment and leisure, non-profits, ecommerce, small businesses, professional services and mid-market companies. It also has pages for agencies, freelancers and developers.
It suits an operator who wants email and SMS marketing for a business or organization, not only a newsletter. SMS is an add-on in select countries and needs application and approval.
What you can do with it
Mailchimp offers email marketing, SMS marketing, AI marketing tools, marketing automations, content creation tools, social media marketing, reporting and analytics, templates and audience tools. It also has a lead generation platform, transactional email and a mobile app.
Popup forms are on every plan. Email scheduling and removal of Mailchimp branding start on Essentials. Standard adds customizable popup forms and custom-coded templates that can be sent. Premium adds predictive segmentation and enhanced automation flows.
Plans and pricing
There are four plans: Free, Essentials, Standard and Premium. Free covers 250 contacts and 1 seat. Essentials adds 3 seats, scheduling and removal of Mailchimp branding. Standard adds 5 seats, branded templates, custom reports and a no-cost generative AI add-on. Premium has unlimited seats, SSO, phone support and A/B testing.
Paid plans are tiered by contact count. Prices are on its pricing page.
What it works with
Mailchimp has 300 or more integrations, including Shopify, WooCommerce, Canva, Zapier, Square, Wix, Squarespace, Stripe, Salesforce, LinkedIn, WordPress and Facebook.
Developers get a Marketing API, a Transactional API and webhooks. SMS is an add-on on Essentials, Standard and Premium, and is not on the Free plan. Other named connections include QuickBooks Online, Meta Lead Ads, Lightspeed, Calendly and Make.
Things to know before you choose
Free is limited to 500 sends a month or 250 a day, and sending pauses if a limit is passed. Paid plans bill overages instead. Monthly sends are 10 times contacts on Essentials, 12 times on Standard and 15 times on Premium.
Custom-coded templates can only be created, not sent, on Free and Essentials. A 14-day trial covers Essentials and Standard. Premium has a one-month trial for qualified new customers, arranged through sales.
