What Mail-Tester is
Mail-Tester gives you a test address. You send an email to it and get a report on your message content, mail server and sending IP address.
Scores come from SpamAssassin, run as a default install. A higher score is better, and the goal is 10 out of 10.
There are also free checkers for SPF, DKIM, DMARC and BIMI, a DNS lookup and an IP reputation check.
Who it is for
Mail-Tester is for people who send email. It was built to test the team's own newsletters cheaply and simply, and is now shared for free.
A newsletter operator can use it to check one issue before sending. It checks a single test message, not a whole list, so an operator who wants list cleaning or ongoing monitoring would need another tool.
What you can do with it
Each visit gives a random test address. You send your email to it, then click Check your score. The report covers your message, your mail server and your sending IP, and lists what is set up correctly and what is not.
The goal is 10 out of 10. Scores come from SpamAssassin, an open-source filter run as a default install.
Free tools include SPF and DKIM checkers, DMARC and BIMI generators and checkers, a domain scanner, a DNS record lookup, a phishing link checker, a DMARC report analyzer and an IP reputation check.
Plans and pricing
You get 3 free tests in any 24-hour period, with no account. Extra tests can be bought as a pack.
Paid options are monthly subscriptions from $10 for 50 tests, up to $250 for 7,500 tests, and one-time packs from $5 for 10 tests. Prices exclude VAT.
An account lets you use your own prefix, keeps results for 30 days and unlocks the API and iframe.
What it works with
It offers a JSON API and an iframe so results can be brought into your own software. These are only on paid plans.
There are 24 interface languages. The test works with any email you can send to the test address, so it is not tied to one sending platform.
Things to know before you choose
Anyone with the exact test address can see the results. Results last 7 days on the free version and 30 days with an account.
Results may differ from other spam filters, and individual user preferences also affect delivery. No one can ensure everyone receives their emails, but a perfect score improves your chances.
If a test shows neither inbox nor spam, the sending server is probably blacklisted. Please do not place unreasonable load on the service.
