Memberful is a platform for selling subscriptions and sharing content on your own website or app. It is a Patreon company.

It supports monthly, annual and custom subscriptions, one-time payments, free and paid trials, coupons and group subscriptions. Members can get newsletters, podcasts and downloads.

It syncs member lists with email tools so a newsletter can go to all members or to members on a specific plan.

Who it is for

Memberful is built for creators such as podcasters, bloggers and artists. It also serves independent publishers, including writers, journalists and newsrooms, and communities such as clubs and associations.

A newsletter operator who wants readers to pay for access, on a site they own, is the match. Memberful sells the membership and controls who gets in. It does not replace the tool that writes and sends the email. Operators who want everything in one hosted newsletter product may look elsewhere.

What you can do with it

Memberful offers one-click checkout, free and paid trials, coupons and discounts, and sign-in by password or link. Subscriptions can be monthly, annual or custom. It also supports pay-what-you-choose, one-time payments and group subscriptions.

For managing members it covers subscriptions and refunds, unlimited staff accounts, private notes and acquisition insights. Business tools include analytics, payment automations and a dashboard. Memberful also has a website and newsletter builder with custom domains and paywalls, plus a WordPress plugin and an API for custom sites.

Plans and pricing

Memberful has two plans. Standard is $49 a month plus a 4.9% transaction fee. It includes everything Memberful offers under that one price. Enterprise is custom, with volume-based rates, success management, and migration and implementation help.

You can try Standard for free for as long as you like. Billing starts when you go live and accept payments. Unlimited members are always included. Checkout features such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, coupons and global tax collection are included in every plan.

What it works with

Memberful keeps a member list in sync with email tools: Mailchimp, Kit, Campaign Monitor, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, MailerLite, Sailthru and Drip. A newsletter can go to all members or to one plan.

Other connections are WordPress and bbPress, Discord, Discourse, Google Analytics, Tapfiliate for affiliate tracking, LearnDash and Sensei for lessons, Zapier, and a GraphQL API with webhooks. Stripe handles payments. beehiiv and Substack are not on the integrations list.

Things to know before you choose

You use your own Stripe account for payments and data, and your own branding on every page. Dedicated support and success management are for Enterprise.

Guided onboarding, human support, launch playbooks, and a team that helps move an existing membership are available. It is not published whether Stripe's own fees apply, how payouts work, or the cancellation terms.
