What Gumroad is
Gumroad is a platform for selling digital products online. Creators can charge one-time, recurring or fixed-length payments, and customers can pay in their own currency.
Memberships give subscribers ongoing access to a content library, billed monthly, quarterly, biannually or yearly. Creators can post updates, send broadcasts and run automated workflows, and can import or export an email list.
Since January 1, 2025, Gumroad acts as merchant of record and handles sales tax collection and remittance.
Who it is for
Anyone who wants to sell digital products online can use Gumroad, and you do not need to be a tech expert. It serves creators who sell books, courses, memberships, downloads and software.
For a newsletter operator, it fits someone who wants to sell paid extras, such as a guide, a template pack or a members library, next to a free newsletter. It is a store with email tools. It is not a full newsletter platform with sign-up pages and issue archives.
What you can do with it
Gumroad has a page editor for a storefront, custom domains, pay-what-you-want pricing, multiple currencies, EU VAT collection, license keys for software and sales analytics. It also offers multiple file versions and lightweight DRM.
Creators can charge one-time, recurring or fixed-length payments. Memberships give customers access to a content library while they stay subscribed. For email, you can post updates, send broadcasts, run automated workflows, and import or export an email list. You can use its store or embed checkout and a Follow button on your own site.
Plans and pricing
Gumroad has no plan names and no monthly fee. It takes a share of each sale. Sales made through your profile or direct links cost 10% plus 50 cents per transaction. Sales to new customers who find you through Discover, Gumroad's marketplace, cost 30%.
Gumroad has handled sales tax collection and remittance worldwide since January 1, 2025. Creators who already file sales tax returns can use a Reseller Certificate. Payouts go by direct deposit or PayPal, depending on country. Payout timing is not published.
What it works with
Sellers can connect their Gumroad account to thousands of apps in their current stack.
You can use Gumroad as a hosted store, or embed its payment platform and a Follow button on an existing site. You can also link your own website to Gumroad under a custom domain. Its code is open source on GitHub.
Things to know before you choose
Gumroad has a single per-sale structure, so cost rises with sales. Payment processor fees are not published separately, and no sales or transaction limits are published. File size limits and product quotas are not published.
The Discover rate of 30% applies only to sales to new customers who find you there. Support is a Help center, linked in the footer.
